United States Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs: cph.3a08820

The Mark Twain House and Museum is hosting its 3rd annual "Royal Nonesuch" Humor Writing Contest! The contest is open to all ages and locations, but there are two categories that will be awarded based on age:

  • Adults - ages 18+ at the time of submission; entry fee is $23

  • Young Author - ages 17 or younger at time of submission; entry fee is $13

All fees go to support The Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, CT.

Essays and stories should be no longer than 7,000 words and contain humorous content. All submissions should be in English, and previously published work is acceptable as long as the piece did not win other humor prizes. You may submit more than one entry, but you must pay a separate fee for each work submitted.

Prizes for both Adult and Young Authors are the same:

  • 1st Prize - $1,000

  • 2nd Prize - $500

  • 3rd Prize - $250

Submissions are due by July 10, 2016, and winners will be notified by September 12, 2016.
